Approach to Therapy

“College as An Adventure” -I view college experience as a valuable journey for anyone to enjoy and improve themselves with both highs and lows along the way. I recognize and validate all my clients’ feelings and experiences. When needed, I want to offer as much help as I can so that my clients can find a stronger self and continue their adventure.

“More Than Theories and Interventions.”- When it comes to counseling, I value the cooperative relationship between me and my clients. I want to create a warm and safe space for my clients so that they can feel comfortable sharing their true thoughts and concerns. I believe counseling is more than clients inputting information and therapists outputting feedback and suggestions. Rather, it’s an interactive process facilitated by two humans.

“Learning As a Journey”- I place my current interest of counseling approaches and models in Behavioral Therapy, Gestalt, Narrative therapy, Adlerian, and object-relations theory. By applying such approaches and theories, I aim to help my clients form better understandings of their emotions, their life stories & their impact, and their interpretations. I also strive to continually expand my knowledge and skills and collaborate with clients to offer them tools that best their unique needs and goals.

Multicultural Interests

As an international student myself, I am interested in working with clients on multicultural and cross-cultural concerns, international experiences, and adjusting to new environments. I am fluent in both English and Mandarin Chinese. As a heterosexual male, I am interested in how traditional masculinity can cause pressure or other negative impacts on people. I also enjoy working with people experiencing intimate relationship concerns.

To best serve my clients and honor their unique identities and backgrounds, I believe in practicing cultural humility to remain open-minded, to reflect on my own biases, and to work alongside my clients to help them achieve their goals.
