About our Doctoral Internship
The University of Iowa’s UCS offers a 12-month, 2,000-hour, full-time, APA-accredited doctoral internship in health service psychology. Our doctoral internship in psychology has been continuously accredited since 1979. The term “accredited” provides public notification that our internship program meets standards of quality set forth by the APA Commission on Accreditation. Our internship positions are filled annually through the APPIC Match.
All prospective psychology interns must be enrolled in APA-accredited doctoral programs. Applicants must apply through the APPIC Match.
Our APPIC Program Number is 124711.
Our Practicum Training Programs
UCS offers practicum training opportunities for students in a variety of mental health graduate programs. Currently we offer practicum placements to students from the University of Iowa’s Counseling Psychology doctoral program, master’s of Social Work program, and master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling program. Students from other programs will be considered.
Scientist-Practitioners and Evidence-Based Services
We are identified as scientist-practitioners, with a clear commitment to deliver evidence-based services to diverse consumers. We strive to help our trainees practice with cultural humility and deliver culturally-responsive, effective services. We as trainers are committed to engage with our trainees to examine the assumptions that inform our work; these are inextricably linked to our life experiences and intersecting sets of cultural identities.
Fairness and Transparency
We respect informed consent and evaluation processes; we strive for fairness and transparency in our supervisory and training roles. We work to be responsive to our trainees’ input, so that we can provide a positive learning environment.
