Biography

· B.A., Psychology, University of Iowa 2023

· M.A., Social Work, University of Iowa, Anticipated 2025

Experience and Interest:

With my academic background of both psychology and social work I look to bring a well-rounded academic and professional background to my practice.

My professional experience includes extensive work in substance use treatment, where I’ve developed a deep understanding of the multifaceted challenges individuals face in their journey toward recovery. I approach counseling from a person-in-environment perspective, recognizing the intricate relationship between individuals and their broader contexts.

I believe in employing a client-centered, strength-based approach to therapy, focusing on empowering clients by leveraging their unique strengths and addressing their specific needs. Through this practicum I look to incorporate Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients develop effective coping strategies and achieve meaningful change.

My professional interests include supporting students as they navigate pivotal periods of self-discovery and transformation. I am particularly passionate about working with those facing anxiety, substance use issues, depression, self-identity challenges, campus adjustments, and time management difficulties. I am dedicated to providing empathetic and evidence-based support to help students thrive during these critical moments in their lives.

Multicultural interest:

I am committed to cultural humility and recognize that our identities are continually evolving. I strive to understand and respect the diverse cultures and identities of those I work with, while also engaging in ongoing self-reflection to better understand my own cultural perspective. My goal is to create an inclusive and empathetic therapeutic environment that honors and integrates the rich lives of each individual’s experiences.

Outreach:

This year my outreach will be centered around growing campus knowledge and awareness of harm reduction and substance use through our Collegiate Recovery Program.
