Clinical/counseling interests

I believe counseling is a collaboration between therapist and client where each brings their respective expertise to work together to achieve the client’s goals. My goal is to create a safe and open environment for the client to explore their concerns and find ways to cope and enhance their personal strengths. I approach therapy from a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) perspective while integrating therapeutic techniques from other evidence-based treatments, such as Interpersonal Therapy (IPT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). My clinical interests include issues and concerns related to sport and performance. I work primarily with collegiate athletes and have focused treatment on depression, anxiety, trauma, adjustment difficulties, identity development, and performance enhancement (e.g., confidence, motivation, visualization). I also enjoy working with teams and groups on building cohesion, communication, roles, leadership, and interpersonal relationships.

Multicultural interests

I am committed to social justice and equality for all in my personal and professional worlds. In particular, I am interested in LGBT and gender equity issues as well as issues common to women, such as body image and professional assertion, though I am passionate about advocacy for all populations. I am continually striving to increase my multicultural awareness, understanding, and competence through working with diverse clients and communities so I may better serve all with whom I work.

Outreach interests

One of my professional passions is outreach work. I have interest in presenting on performance topics and issues, such as coping with performance anxiety or building confidence. Other topics I have presented on include peer support, mental health and wellness strategies, body positivity, and relationship/cohesion building. I have conducted outreach with a variety of populations, from student-athletes to undergraduate first year students to university faculty and staff. I have loved it all and look to continue outreach efforts throughout my career.
