Biography

As the Clinical Coordinator at University Counseling Service, I work in collaboration with the Clinical Director to manage different parts of the clinical services system to support UCS operating effectively for students and UCS staff. I am also responsible for the organization and management of group therapy services, including group therapy procedures, supporting staff providing group therapy, and facilitating group therapy training for our doctoral psychology interns.

Education/Credentials:

  • Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC)
  • Master of Art in Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling, University of Iowa
  • Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, University of Iowa

Clinical/counseling interests:

I approach therapy as a collaborative process in which clients can feel safe and secure to explore and express themselves. I believe every person possesses unique traits and strengths, and sometimes we need assistance to identify and utilize these. My mission as a therapist at UCS is to create a nonjudgmental and nurturing environment in which students can grow and recognize their worth and potential as individuals. I utilize a trauma-informed framework, as well as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).

Multicultural interests

Social justice and equality are important to me personally and professionally. I am passionate about assisting clients in advocating for their needs and overcoming barriers on and off campus, as well as making therapy a safe place for individuals to process through ways they may be impacted by oppression. I have experience working with individuals from the LGBTQIA+ community and people with racial and ethnic identities different from my own. I am committed to continuously engaging in self-reflection and learning to better serve students from all backgrounds.

Outreach interests

I enjoy working with others to spread information about topics in mental health and overall wellness. Specifically, I have experience providing education and outreach related to anxiety and stress management, mindfulness, academic success, and healthy coping.
