  • The Body Image Workshop

    With Tianyi Xie and Elizabeth Marilla-Kapp

    Description: The Body Image Workshop is for UI students who experience body image concerns or who would like to cultivate a more peaceful relationship with their body. It is a series of four psychoeducational programs that focused on unpacking media messages around body image, addressing distressing body-focused thoughts and behaviors, and cultivating body respect. The four programs feature 4 different topics that rotate throughout the semester. Programs are not sequenced. Students can attend all four or drop in for as many or few as they'd like.

    1. How to be a Critical Media Consumer(2/2; 3/2; 3/30; 4/27)
      • Learning about the sociocultural factors that impact our body image and becoming a critical media consumer.
    2. Dealing with Distressing Body Image Thoughts (2/9; 3/9; 4/6; 5/4)
      • Identifying body image distortions and how to cope with them.
    3. Reducing Body Checking and Avoidance(2/16; 3/16; 4/13; 5/11)
      • Understanding body checking and avoidance behaviors and learning ways to challenge them. 
    4. Body Respect! (2/23; 3/23; 4/20; 5/18) 
      • Nurturing a gentle and respectful relationship with your body.
  • The Guest House

    The Guest House is a series of four workshops that focus on cultivating a more compassionate stance towards ourselves, others and the world around us. Join Christopher Anders, M.A. to uncover what self-compassion is and practicing new skills to promote healing and growth. Topics to be explored include self-kindness, our connections with others, and a special focus on mindfulness to better face the challenges in our world. Meetings will last for 50 minutes. Please try to join on time, but know that you are welcome at any time.

  • Soothe Your Anxiety
    Soothe Your Anxiety

    Description: Soothe Your Anxiety is for UI students who are looking to better understand anxiety and develop some quick tools to cope with the symptoms they may experience. Each half-hour workshop will feature information about anxiety and an easy to learn coping skill. Whether you have experienced anxiety for a long time or are experiencing it for the first time in response to current events, this workshop can help. The workshop features 5 different topics over the course of 5 weeks, designed to give students a quick option to learn anxiety management skills – attend them all or pick and choose.

  • Anxiety Toolbox Workshop

    “Anxiety Toolbox” is a three week skills-based workshop designed to help students learn to better manage their anxiety by utilizing a variety of CBT tools and strategies.  This is a curriculum-driven series with structure and specific learning objectives and topics for each week that build students' knowledge over the course of the workshop. All participants will receive a workbook with exercises to be completed both within and outside the group to facilitate their learning.
