Clinical/counseling interests:
“One of the mighty illusions that is constructed in the dailiness of life in our culture is that all pain is a negation of worthiness, that the real chosen people, the real worthy people, are the people that are most free from pain.” – bell hooks
I primarily approach counseling from an Acceptance and Commitment (ACT), person-centered, and interpersonal lens. This means that I place focus on how to manage thoughts and feelings more effectively, especially the painful ones, while discovering what matters most to you in life. I believe in working collaboratively with my clients to identify and accomplish their goals. I bring to counseling previous experience working as a management consultant in Minnesota and Washington. Part of my research interest focuses on vocation and career decision making. My clinical interests include adjustment to college, college major and career concerns, interpersonal concerns, anxiety, depression, concerns related to grief and loss, trauma, sexual orientation and gender identity, and family dynamics.
Multicultural interests:
I am committed to working with a multicultural lens, fostering humility, and working to understand my own biases and privileges. I work to understand how oppression influences the lived experiences of my clients and am committed to advocating for social and economic justice. I feel passionate about women’s psychological and physical health concerns, working with first-generation college student, and serving as an advocate for individuals who identity as LGBTQ+. I encourage clients to explore multiple aspects of their identities, including race/ethnicity, social class, religion/spirituality, etc., and how they play out in therapy and their lives.
Scholarly and outreach interests:
I enjoy providing outreach in the areas of stigma reduction of mental illness in rural and racially/ethnic diverse populations, adjustment concerns for underrepresented students, stress management techniques, and ways to foster mindfulness.
