Clinical/Counseling Interests:

My passion for helping people comes from a humanistic belief that everyone deserves quality of life. I approach therapy through utilization of a strengths perspective and Motivational Interviewing techniques, emphasizing my belief that everyone has strengths and abilities to grow in ways they may not have fully realized. I also believe that the relationship between the client and therapist is essential to the process and strive to create a safe and supportive space for clients to share whatever they may be struggling with at that time. My clinical interests include anxiety, substance use, coping skills, grief and loss, perfectionism, and trauma. I look forward to being a helper for clients to be their best selves.

Multicultural Interests:

My perspective as a social worker informs my belief that to empathize/advocate for clients, one must be culturally competent. I believe that environment informs who we are and that environmental barriers contribute to a person’s emotional state. Therefore I strive for competency in cultures and environments that are not my own. My personal desires are to improve mental health for all people and especially those of marginalized populations. My personal passions are feminism and advocacy for the LGBT community, citizens returning from incarceration, and those struggling with substance abuse.

Outreach Interests:

I believe that mental health care is a right and a need that all people should have access to without stigmatization or privileged status. I have a personal goal of reducing the stigma around mental health and my outreach efforts will revolve around encouraging UI students to seek counseling without concern for ridicule or judgment. I believe in community support for people in crisis and passionately believe that when people are in psychological pain and need help, they should have access to it. In continuing my outreach efforts, I want to provide education on topics such as anxiety, grief, substance abuse, and stress relief.
