Department of Athletics

MISSION
The mission of UCS Sport Psychology Services is to provide psychological services to University of Iowa student-athletes that foster mental health and well-being, promote success in educational and athletic goals, and contribute to a safe, welcoming, and multi-culturally aware athletics department and campus community.

SERVICES
Sport Psychology Services provide confidential personal counseling, performance psychology services, and psychological rehabilitation from injury. Additionally, we provide consultation to coaching, medical, strength training, and administrative staff. Mental skills training and team building activities are also available for teams. We encourage collaboration with other staff as appropriate.

CONFIDENTIALITY
Feelings of trust and safety are critical for personal growth and relationship building. Therefore, confidentiality is taken seriously. All aspects of individual counseling sessions are confidential and protected by state law. No information will be released without the express written or verbal consent of the student-athlete or in instances where disclosure is required by law (e.g. serious threat of harm to self or specifically identified others, court order, child or dependent adult abuse and/or neglect).

SCHEDULING AN APPOINTMENT
Appointments can be made by contacting Aubrette Kinne at (319) 930-5414 or Carmen Tebbe-Priebe at (319) 530-2465. You can also call the University Counseling Service main location at (319) 335-7294 for other therapists and services. The Sports Psychology Service is located on the second floor of the Jacobson Athletic Building Rec (entrance near the baseball field). Appointments are typically scheduled Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Other times can be made available as necessary.

WHAT TO EXPECT
Services are free of charge to current UI student-athletes. The first session typically is approximately an hour and includes time for completing initial paperwork and discussing current concerns, relevant history, and goals. Follow-up sessions are approximately 30-50 minutes and occur once every week or two. Appointment times and length are flexible. All sessions focus on discussing goals, strategies, and skill development to address concerns.
